About YMCA Camps
YMCA Day Camp is a perfect place for kids to have fun, meet new friends, and experience new and exciting activities! There are plenty of activities and events planned each day of every week. Campers will be given certified swimming lessons, participate in fun and exciting crafts, and involve themselves in entertaining gym games. Campers will have the life experience of going on various outdoor trips, encounter thrilling adventure sports, and have time to sing traditional camp songs and participate in weekly themes!
Staff/Volunteer Information
YMCA Day Camps are planned and supervised by full-time YMCA staff. Camp leaders are selected for their maturity, experience, and skills with children. All of our leaders have First-Aid and CPR certification and receive a comprehensive 4 day training session about YMCA leadership, safety and emergency procedures. Volunteers are selected based on their commitment and experience to the YMCA. All staff and volunteers go through a security clearance prior to the start of camp.
Alberta Camping Association/ACA Information
By choosing an Accredited Camp, you can be assured that basic health and safety needs are being addressed within the camp. Further, member camps join together to ensure that collectively we are aware of the issues that affect this industry and together working on educating ourselves about these issues. The Medicine Hat Family YMCA recently received a certificate for being a member of the Alberta Camping Association for 10 consecutive years. Standards such as staff to camper ratios, emergency procedures, site safety and much more are all requirements of being part of the ACA.
Financial Aid
The Medicine Hat Family YMCA wants everyone to have the opportunity to participate in Day Camp and other programs we offer. Financial Aid is available to those who need assistance. We value our youth and do not want to create barriers for them, as they are the leaders of tomorrow. To receive financial assistance please fill out the YMCA Day Camp Subsidy Form and then book a meeting with Kayla Hammel, Youth Program Director.
