LIT to Leader Success Story

Tanea and Braiden started going to the YMCA day camps when we moved here in 2002 and their involvement with the YMCA has evolved from there.

Scott approached Tanea in the summer of 2005 and invited her to join LIT’s which she attended for 3 years; she is now in her 2nd year of Leader’s.  During this time, she has volunteered in many various capacities with the YMCA (MH Food Bank, rock climbing, Gift Wrap Booth, swim lessons, etc.) as well as Big Brothers Big Sisters (Bowl for Kids Sake, etc.).  Tanea has also taken swim lessons through the Y and is currently enrolled in Bronze Cross & Bronze Medallion with the goal of completing her NLS in spring 2010.  She works with the children in the Babysitting room on a weekly basis and seems to be enjoying it.

Braiden is in his 2nd year with LIT’s and enjoys it very much.  He willingly volunteers for YMCA and BBBS when asked, helping with BBQ’s, Gift Wrap Booths, Bowl for Kids Sake and anywhere else he can.  Braiden also works Birthday parties on a regular basis.

LIT’s and Leaders have benefited both Tanea and Braiden in that they have learned many new skills as well, such as reliability and conscientiousness; they are at work on time and do their jobs to the best of their abilities and are always willing to do a little extra.  They feel a certain amount of pride knowing that they’re appreciated.

Tanea and Braiden have definitely found their place at the YMCA; it’s like a second home for them.  Had it not been for the financial aid available through the Y, my children would not have had the opportunities they’ve enjoyed and I am very grateful for that.  Scott has always been willing to help me out in that area and never made me feel as if I was imposing for asking.

Special thanks to Scott, Erin, Meredith and all the others who’ve been there for Tanea & Braiden and helped shape them in to the wonderful young people they are.
